This is what 588nm in 24 hours looks like 🌬 Flight of the @volvooceanrace for me right here, and the best part at the end was a total accident. We had been sending it at record breaking pace, 30+ kt wind and boat speeds for almost a day and I kept telling myself not to fly because of the endless fog and drizzle and waves on deck. Drone suicide. Then it clicked that I may never have a chance at this again. I opted for a hatch launch to keep the controller (and OBR) dry and launched when @kylelangford1 (driving) gave me the all clear. The flight was the easy part, as much as it hurt to know the drone was getting riddled with water. When it came time to land the gimbal was shorting out and going nuts, so I told Kyle I was going to crash it into the cockpit. It was so loud on deck with all the speed and water and I could have sworn he said, “Nah, I’ll catch it.” What he had said was Pete will catch it on the back. I didn’t get that, and it was something Kyle had joked about trying earlier. I asked @ninacurtis to take the action camera and film his big moment… that he had no idea was coming. The seagull was wearing gloves and a visor, and luckily still had some reflexes left in him. The drone was dead for a few days and miraculously came back to life at the Lundy Island, just a few miles from the finish. The @DJIglobal P4Pro is a workhorse and there’s nothing better than working with sailors who are keen to make awesome videos when the pressure is on.
